A BENEFIT CONCERT FOR JAPAN EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI RELIEF

(Brooklyn, NY) Dance Project New York (DPNY) presents "DANCE for JAPAN", a benefit dance concert for Japan earthquake and Tsunami relief on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at 8pm. Different generations of Japanese and American dancers will come together to perform various styles of dance wishing fast relief and recovery for the people suffering in Japan.

The concert will be mainly performed by Japanese professional dancers in NYC including Yuriko Kajiya (American Ballet Theatre), Ryoko Kudo (Limon Dance Company), Maile Okamura (Mark Morris Dance Group), Harumi Terayama (Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet), Kanji Segawa and many others.

Japanese students from American Ballet Theatre's Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (JKO) School will also perform.

The program will include works by choreographers such as Alexander Ekman, Francesca Harper, Jessica Lang, José Limón, Lar Lubovitch, Mark Morris, Jennifer Muller and Pam Tanowitz.

The concert will be hosted by actress, Emi Ikehata (The Grudge 3).

100 percent of the tickets sales will be donated to Japan Society for the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.

Dear friends

As you know, my country is in a big chaos and really terrible situations because of the recent earthquake/tsunami tragedy. While my family is safe fortunately, it is causing a lot of mess and a lot of people are suffering, and i'm very much in pain just thinking of them.

For the past 4 years, I have run a project called "Dance Project New York'' which consists with japanese professional dancers in NYC, providing performances and workshops for japanese dancers in both Japan and the U.S. Through this project, I'm organizing "DANCE for JAPAN" a benefit Dance Concert for Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief to raise money for this tragedy. The concert will be mainly performed by Japanese dancers with American dancers in NYC that includes both professionals and students in modern and ballet. We will donate 100 percent of the tickets sales to Japan Society.

As a Japanese artist living in the U.S, I strongly feel that it's important to organize this concert and to raise money to help people in Japan.

It would be very much appreciated if you could support me and spread your words to more people about this concert.

Our conception in this collaboration was for dancers to perform based on images from the paintings. We choose the word perform rather than dance as the movement does not have a fixed particular rhythm. it is a movement of human personal expression.
Our goal is to create a performance that queries the connection and the relationship between one person and another person.
we will express images through these paintings and contemporary dance.
